The real difference is the direction of the work
Dext starts with documents
Dext's model is capture-first: you feed it receipts and invoices (app, email, fetch, upload), it extracts the fields, and it publishes them to your ledger. That is a good fit when your problem is getting paper and PDF documents into accounting software with accurate line items.
Receipt Pair starts with the bank
Receipt Pair's model is match-first: every bank charge triggers a search of your inbox and inbound address for the receipt that proves it. Documents you drop in or forward get matched the same way. The output is not a pile of extracted documents; it is every charge either paired with its proof or sitting on a missing-receipt report.
If your bookkeeper's complaint is "half my charges have no receipt," matching-first is the model that was designed for that complaint.
Where Dext is genuinely better
Honesty is cheaper than churn. Pick Dext if this is you:
- You run an accounting practice and need multi-client dashboards, staff workflows, and practice pricing. That is Dext's home turf; our Accountant plan covers client workspaces but not a full practice suite.
- You want a dedicated mobile scanning app. Receipt Pair captures phone photos through your inbound email address and bulk drop instead; it works, but it is not an app.
- You need deep line-item extraction across hundreds of suppliers and integration breadth built over a decade. Our integration list is deliberately short and Nordic-weighted.
Where Receipt Pair is the better fit
- You are a small business or freelancer, especially in Denmark or the EU, filing to e-conomic, Dinero, Billy, Fortnox, or Visma eAccounting.
- Your receipts mostly arrive by email and you want the finding done for you, not a capture habit to maintain.
- You want Danish VAT treatment classified per document and a VAT return summary that buckets by document date, with currencies kept separate.
- You want missing receipts chased: a weekly report, a vendor chase ladder, and declarations for charges where no receipt will ever exist.
